Not so much for Ultrarunning - California
Trip taken on May 27, 2013
Great hiking trail for motivated adventurers. The training value for me as an athlete training for an Ultramarathon was still good, as it offers about 10 miles of runnable but difficult trail through soft sand and over stretches of single and double track trail. I started from the Indian Cove end, and the first 3 1/2 (and last 3 1/2) miles of round trip were heavy hiking over boulders and rough terrain, great for hiking, not runnable for the most part.
Very few animals today, though I was escorted through the canyon by a small bird that seemed to stay just ahead of me from mile 1 to 3. Saw no humans on trek in, and only 2 couples and a family of 6 on the trek out, so great for solitude. Beautiful trail, well worth a hike if you're in the area and up for a semi-tough one.
