Inhabited between 1250 and 1380 AD, the Puerco Pueblo Ruins are the largest known archeological site within the park. The partially excavated remains are but a fragment of the original 100-room complex that surrounded a large plaza.

The inhabitants of these ruins were primarily vegetarians using the nearby Puerco River for irrigation
