The Wahclella Falls Trail follows Tanner Creek to the base of this powerful 127' waterfall. Wahclella Falls, variously referred to as Tanner Creek Falls or Tanner Falls, plunges in two tiers (48' and 79') through a narrow chute into a misty, steep-walled amphitheater.
Chinook salmon return from the ocean when they're 3-5 years old, and coho when they're 3-4 years old
Wahclella Falls is not tall compared to others in the area, but it's among the most powerful in the gorge with an average volume of 300 cfs (source: waterfallsnorthwest)
Tanner Creek winds through a narrow, high-walled canyon below Wahclella Falls; this short but scenic section of creek snakes around large boulders which have created interesting bends and banks along the way
The trail crosses a bridge right beside Munra Falls, a sliding horsetail structure down a smooth rock face
The lower leg of the loop option to Wahclella Falls runs right along the creek, while the upper leg runs through tall fir and cedar stands high along the canyon wall
Bigleaf maple favor gravelly, moist soils along creek, river and lake edges; mature trees may produce 3-6 gallons of sap per year, with about 35 gallons of sap required to make 1 gallon of syrup
Wahclella Falls is comprised of two tiers (79' + 48') that plunge through a narrow slot into a broad, moss and fern covered amphitheater
